LET'S ENCOURAGE CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FROM OUR CORPORATE INSTITUTIONS IN KWARA SOUTH; YOMI ADEBOYE TO KWAYORG
Kwara South Youth Development Organization (KWAYORG) paid a consultative visit to the Editor, Herald Newspaper to call for support toward the restoration of the Productive and Progressive ideals of Kwara South.
Harping on the need for the rescucitation of Skill acquisition centres and Capacity building of the Youth of the Southern part of the state, Head of the Delegation; Barrister Titilope Akogun reiterated how the Southern youth have lost a lot of employment opportunities to lack of required skills.
Speaking on the Empowerment by the Political class, he stated Empowerment has been bastardized as those empowered opt for selling of the Empowerment tools because the Empowerment isn't wholistic.
Every Empowerment must be preceded by proper training, mentorship and Financial Discipline to sustain the Empowerment tools. Otherwise, the present comatose status would remain.
Speaking further, the delegation reiterated the dire need for restoration of our lost cultural heritage and projection of our Tourist Centres to the world.
He further stated, "We want to prepare our youth to be employable as Okada riding isnt the most viable alternative to unemployment".
"In time past, there were numerous technical training Institutes, a lot of which have become dilapidated and moribund".
"We will encourage revitalization of such training centres and ailing companies to promote the economy of our region".
"We also wish to encourage Corporate Social Responsibilities from our few Corporate institutions in Kwara South".
Mr Yomi in his response appreciated the team, reminding the team of how he learnt the virtues of merit, hardwork and honesty while growing up in Kwara South.
"In our own days, parents were accustomed to bringing their children home every year, to familiarize them with their home towns. But today, otherwise is the case, and that is the beginning of our problems".
"Once you are alienated from your culture and values, you begin to lose a lot".
The Editor described the people of Kwara South as a people who believe in communal support and development without necessarily relying on Government.
"A lot of industries in Kwara State have gone moribund. We used to have Candle industry in Ido Oro, Oro bicycle industry where bicycles were manufactured, Olupo Garment industry in Esie etc".
"Even in Agriculture, we led the ace, as the nation was coming to learn from us. Sahara Safari Farms of Dr. Ololade easily come to mind as Chief Olusegun Obasanjo had to come to learn its working template towards the establishment of Operation Feed the Nation. But where is the farm today?"
"We can't leave it to the politicians alone. I commend your initiative to develop your youth".
"Employability has nothing to do with your certificate but the skills acquired over time. This I commend your organization for coming on board to create remedial Solutions toward a productive and re - oriented Kwara South".

Kwara Gov Spox to Youth: CONVERT YOUR DIGITAL MEDIA SKILLS TO WEALTH
Kwara Gov Spox to Kwara South Young Persons: CONVERT YOUR DIGITAL MEDIA SKILLS TO WEALTH
On its further consultations to the Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, Kwara South youth — and young people in general —have been urged to convert their digital media skills to wealth.
"We cannot continue to channel our energy towards fruitless arguments on social media" and expect a turnaround.
He said a lot of young men and women are making fortunes by exploring the digital media to their advantage.
"For our generation with huge challenges of development, the social media should not be a place where we throw insults at people or distort facts or propagate needless falsehood to discredit a government or people we don’t agree with. It should be a place for us to explore great opportunities,” he said.
“It is for this reason that I align myself totally with the vision of KWAYORG to bring young people together and equip them with digital skills, among other things, that can propel our state to greatness.
"Your decision to sensitise and teach our young people the use of social or digital media is commendable and a refined way of contributing to the human capital development of our youth in the State.”
He said the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has prioritised youth engagement and empowerment which he said is visible from the trend of political appointments under him.
The CPS commended the Governor for the gesture towards the youths in the state, observing that those criticising the appointment of youth
because they have no experience miss the point.
“I became a News Editor for a national newspaper at 22. I didn’t have much experience but I could write and I was always listening to my senior colleagues who gave me that rare opportunity and privilege. I gained experience under them but then they first gave me that opportunity as a young person. This is what the Governor has done in Kwara and it signals a brighter future for young people,” he said.
The delegation, led by Barrister Titilope Akogun, while appreciating the Governor's spokesman for hosting them, assured him that KWAYORG would ensure mass sensitization towards the programme which would mark a huge turnaround for the young people from the region.
